We are staying here for six days at a B&B. It is in the countryside and our GPS had some difficulty finding the place. In fact, she took us through a small village and wanted us to make a sharp right turn onto an extremely narrow road. Since we've been down this path before when living in Italy, we stopped the car, Ernie got out and scouted the area. I wish he had the camera with him to take a picture of the sig. That said the road was only for motorcycles. Thank goodness we didn't get ourselves into a pickle (Heather and Brian will remember the road in Cinque Terra).
Called the contact for the B&B and they said to go to the monastery in town and so done will come to get us. Once we made it to the house, we discovered it was a marvelous retreat above town and our view is spectacular. Went to the store to pick up a picnic supper and ate on the veranda while the sun was setting.
The weather here is a little cooler and it was a great to hunker down under the down comforter. So quiet that it was almost too quiet after the last month we've spent.
Today we drove to Óbidos (pronounced Obidoosh). This postcard perfect town sits on a hill and has a 14th century wall, 45 feet tall, surrounding it. It was founded by the Celts around 300 B.C., then ruled by Romans, Visigoths and Moors. Today this medieval town is preserved I. It's entirety as a national monument and survives on tourism. To say it is beautiful is an understatement. Again, I'll just let the pictures do the talking.
This shot is for Joelle! |
Ginja is the specialty of this region (cherry liqueur). You DRink it out of dark chocolate cups and then eat the cup. |
My lunch was fried pork, roasted chestnuts and dressing! |
Ernie was able to ha goat. It was great. |
I can't believe it, I met my goal of completing the post on the day we did the activity. I am so tired of playing catch-up. We'll see how long that lasts! It's now time for me to sit on the veranda with a glass of wine and enjoy the sunset, hope y'all are having an equally relaxing, calm and enjoyable day!
